A stop and search order has been put in force for two areas in the South of Manchester and Stockport following reports of a firearms discharge and a series of arson attacks.
The order, under Section 60, means that police officers have temporary additional powers to stop and search people in a defined area within a specific timeframe.
It will remain in place from this evening (Wednesday 3 May 2023) until 8:15pm tomorrow (Thursday 4 May 2023), Greater Manchester Police have said. READ MORE: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community These powers have been implemented temporarily in response to recent incidents.
Police are treating these as linked and targeted attacks and there is believed to be no threat to the wider community. The incidents are related to a firearms discharge that occurred in Burnage on April 30 2023, and a series of arson attacks on May 2.
