Roberts was located at a depth of 22,621 feet (more than four miles) in the Philippine Sea by adventurer Victor Vescovo on June 22.The destroyer escort was hit by Japanese naval fire during the Battle off Samar in October 1944, with 90 of the 210 crew perishing as the ship went down.
