The M62 was closed in both directions by police on Sunday afternoon (October 22) after an 'aggressive bull' had escaped. Armed police attended the incident with police helicopters circling overhead, as the motorway was shut off between J20 and J19 near Heywood, causing long delays.

Police have confirmed an 'aggressive bull' had escaped nearby and that the motorway was closed 'for public safety'. The bull was later killed as a 'safety precaution' due to the risk it posed towards people in the area. "For public safety, police closed the M62 resulting in delays in both directions.

It has now been reopened. "Specialist armed officers attended, and unfortunately due to the nature of the incident, the bull was destroyed as a safety precaution due to the risk towards people in the area."
