It may be called Pig Square but Neilston’s heartland is now home to two giant bulls! The striking new sculpture was unveiled by East Renfrewshire Council. It pays homage to the origins of the Neilston Agricultural Show when a local dispute between two neighbours over who had the best prized bull grew into an annual event that has continued since the early 19th century.

Through the Scottish Government's town centre fund, the council commissioned the design, creation and installation of the public art feature.

Artist Ruaraig Maciver from Beltane Studios consulted with the community to learn about local history and find out what cultural and heritage aspects could be incorporated into the designs. The installation was supported by Heron Bros who assisted in lifting the sculptures into place and provided the concrete plinth. As part of their Neilston learning campus contract, they supported a variety of community benefits including 12 jobs, engagement with Neilston Primary pupils and equivalent of £12,000 in time and resources to community causes.Renfrewshire Live, the new free app dedicated to bringing you around the clock breaking news, is now available to download.Powered by the Paisley Daily Express, Renfrewshire Live is your go-to source for news, features and sport with live coverage provided direct to the app, seven days a week. The dedicated team of experienced journalists, responsible for the publication of the award-winning Express, will focus on breaking news, day and night, across Renfrewshire’s towns and villages. There is also a dedicated St Mirren section that will follow every kick of the ball with the Buddies.
