Grace Jones has announced a new concert at West Yorkshire’s Halifax Piece Hall, as part of the venue’s Live at the Piece Hall series in the Summer of 2024.The Jamaican musician and fashion icon will be performing at The Piece Hall’s massive, 66,000 square-foot courtyard on Saturday, June 22. FKA Twigs has shared her thoughts on a Calvin Klein poster featuring the singer has been banned in the UK, with the ruling claiming it is “likely to cause serious offence” by objectifying women.The banned poster in question saw the artist posing with a denim shirt draping over one shoulder – leaving the side of her buttocks and half of one break exposed. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received two complaints about the campaign image, each arguing that the portrayal of Twigs was “overly sexualised” and caused offence by objectifying women.Commenting on the campaign photo and follow-up complaints, the ASA made a statement reading (via The Times): “We considered the image’s composition placed viewers’ focus on the model’s body rather than on the clothing being advertised,” the ruling said.

Now 75, she’s continued performing but hasn’t released an album since 2008, and seemed to drop below the radar for all but her fanbase, influencees and the LGBTQ and Pitchfork audiences until the past few years, when the brilliance of her “Warm Leatherette,” “Nightclubbing” and “Living My Life” albums became even more undeniable. Yet even fans who’d seen her shows in the past probably were not prepared for the eye-popping, mind-blowing concert she staged as part of Blue Note Jazz Festival at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Wednesday night, which mere words cannot do justice. At 75, her always-deep voice sounds as great as ever, her outfits and staging are as provocative as ever, and she could give Mick Jagger a literal run for his money in terms of fitness and dexterity at a certain age.
