Tropical soft drink Lilt to be axed by Coca-Cola after almost 50 years on shelves

Coca-Cola is planning to axe the tropical soft drink Lilt after almost 50 years on our shelves, it has been reported. The recipe, however, will remain as it is being relaunched under one of Coca-Cola's other brands, as Fanta Pineapple & Grapefruit.

It will offer the taste that fans 'know and love'.The Grocer has reported that the rebranded drink will be available in 330ml cans, 500ml bottles and two-litre bottles.

Lilt has been on UK shelves since 1975, with many knowing the brand for the 1980s adverts featuring the "Lilt man" and the "Lilt ladies".Coca-Cola Euro-pacific Partners GB VP of commercial development Martin Attock told the trade publication: "Our main priority with this announcement is to reassure Lilt’s loyal fanbase that absolutely nothing has changed when it comes to the iconic taste of the drink they know and love."The rebranded Fanta Pineapple & Grapefruit is expected to roll out to retailers on Tuesday, February 14.

They are expected to feature "a graphic nod to the totally tropical taste of the product’s roots".Some Twitter users took to the social media site to share their thoughts on the axing of the product, with many sad to be seeing the brand go.A user wrote: "Lilt being scrapped ruined my day," and another added: "Gutted.
