'Tough call' as award-winning family-run bakery announces closure at the end of the month

An award-winning plant-based bakery and coffee shop in Ayr will close its doors at the end of the month.Barefaced Food - run by Catherine Lawson, son Rory and his partner Denise Heron - announced they will pull down the shutters of their North Harbour Industrial Estate premises at the end of October.The family-run bakery - which won the regional best bakery award at the Scottish Business Awards last year - is popular for its entirely plant based goods including gourmet sandwiches, Buddha bowls, and sweets including red velvet cupcakes, Biscoff brownies and empire biscuits.The eatery also hosted food workshops, sharing knowledge of ingredients and making delicious plant-based meals.Catherine, Rory and Denise said the decision to close had been a “tough call to make” but looked towards the future with their soon-to-be launched new online resource “devoted to food, nutrition and lifestyle.”After thanking loyal customers, the trio added that the closure also now opens up an opportunity for another passionate foodie to take over the premises and live "the café dream."A post on Barefaced Food’s Facebook page said: “After much thought and consideration, we’ve taken the difficult decision to close our beloved Barefaced Bakery and Coffee House.

As you can imagine this has been a tough call to make.“There is, however, a silver lining. While this marks the end of one chapter, it’s the beginning of a whole new adventure on the Barefaced journey.“For the last few months we’ve been busy in the background creating an exciting new online resource which we’ll be launching soon, devoted to food, nutrition and lifestyle.“It’s a resource which has been inspired by the many wonderful and insightful conversations we’ve had with all of you
