Plans have been revived to convert the site of a former 24-hour petrol station into a synagogue and kosher food outlet. Documents published in the past week reveal the proposals for the former Texaco garage on Bury Old Road, Prestwich.
Applicants Unimore Ltd hope to demolish existing structures and create a building to serve the local Jewish community. The plans are a resubmission of a similar scheme approved in 2019, which has now lapsed.
Minor changes have been made to the previous scheme including the removal of one of two internal stairwells. The planning documents state: “The plans are for the erection of a two-storey detached building comprising a retail and synagogue. “The ground floor would be used for food retail, the second floor would be used for the synagogue in part and the basement floor would be used for storage and plant only.” READ MORE: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community There would be 13 car parking spaces, including two disabled spaces created and five short stay bicycle hoops for customers.
Areas of landscaping to the east of the retail unit entrance would be created and a new vehicular access and point on Bury Old Road would be built.
