Annan Town Band has added more silverware to its trophy cabinet with another competition success. The band travelled to the Fife Charities Brass Band Association contest in Kirkcaldy to compete alongside top bands from across Scotland and northern England.

And it won the trophy for best second section and finished fifth overall thanks to a stunning performance. The Fife contest is one of the few where brass bands from across all grades– from the championship down to section four – compete against each other, with the chance to challenge higher ranked bands.

Annan targeted a place just inside the overall top 10 based on their current ranking, so the fifth place finish exceeded expectations.

Band manager Dale Simmons said: “We’re currently competing in the second section and the aim is always to try and win your section, so it’s fantastic to accomplish that goal. “In the final overall result we were placed above six bands who are ranked higher than us, which is more than we could ever have dreamed of in years gone by.
