Auchterarder lad Euan O’Reilly struck the winner as League Two Stenhousemuir stunned St Johnstone in the opening Viaplay Cup group match.

The former Saint, a talented winger who came through the Perth club’s ranks, produced a precise finish early in the second half to win the game for The Warriors.

While Steven MacLean’s side had a couple of great chances, there could not be too many complaints about the final result. Only one change had been made from the team that started Tuesday’s friendly against East Fife with Alex Ferguson replacing the injured Cammy MacPherson.

Graham Carey had Saints’ best early chance when forcing goalkeeper Darren Jamieson to tip his free-kick from range behind for a corner.
