Douglas Park leaves a Rangers legacy of glory and needless fights – Keith Jackson
In so many ways when the end came – completely out of the blue yesterday tea time – Douglas Park left the building in precisely the manner he had governed it. Having said next to nothing of any significance throughout his entire time as Rangers chairman, the great non-communicator barely paused to say goodbye. Far less make any attempt to actually explain the thinking behind his last act in the big seat. The legacy he leaves behind is set in stone and no there's no room for debate or argument. He was in charge when Steven Gerrard stopped Celtic in their 10-in-a-row tracks. Under his leadership, Rangers also reached a Europa League Final in Seville. Undeniable and irrefutable achievements both. And so, along with last season’s Scottish Cup win, Park can reflect on a reign of moderate domestic success with one outstanding, historic high water mark left on the continental game.
