British tourists planning to visit Greece or who are there already are being urged to follow new travel advice as the country battles intense wildfires.
Hotels, villas and homes on the island of Rhodes have been evacuated as the blaze enters its sixth day of burning. In response, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel guidance, urging tourists to check with their hotel or tour operators as several airlines have cancelled all flights to Rhodes.
The department has also shared emergency service contact details for Brits already in Rhodes already, who should follow local advice.Updating its guidance on Saturday, the FCDO said: "If you are a British national affected by wildfires in Rhodes near Kiotari, Pefkoi, Lindos and the surrounding area, please follow the guidance from the emergency services.
Call the Greek Emergency Services on 112 if you are in immediate danger."The Greek government has established a Crisis Management Unit to respond to the situation in Rhodes.
