Children's author attends official opening of new library at Lanarkshire primary school

After many months of planning, the new library for the children of Glengowan Primary School in Larkhall is now open for use.The event included a visit from much-loved children's author Joan Haig, who wrote popular kids book, Tiger Skin Rug and was delighted to be a part of the official opening.Joan spoke to the children about the experiences which led to writing the book and commented positively about the engagement level of the children, their polite manners, and the impressive new space that has been created fo the school library.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

He told Lanarkshire Live: "Our new library is an incredible space for the children. "It's the ‘icing on the cake’ for all the development work carried out at the school over the past five years."Fundamental changes to the teaching of reading, a streamlined approach to the delivery of interventions, shared professional learning, and an investment in new resources made possible by the support of our parent council have all led to significant increases in reading ages in the upper school."All children, from nursery to primary seven, will have access to the new library on a weekly basis where they can now read and borrow a whole new range of books in a lovely environment.
