When you're buying a car, choosing to opt for a second-hand model could save you a lot of money. And although they can come with their risks, it really helps to make sure that you're buying it from a reputable and trustworthy place.According to one car expert on social media, who has been in the industry for over 50 years, one of the riskiest places to buy a second-hand car is from a dealership, as they're often sold for much more than they were purchased for.The advice was shared by mechanic Scotty Kilmer on YouTube, who warned potential buyers of the risks of visiting car dealerships in a YouTube video, the Express reports. “Guys that are selling used cars [are] pros,” he explained. “They do it for a living.

They want to squeeze every last dime out of the car, they have no personal in it.”“Generally their commission is a percentage of the sales, the higher the price the more money goes into their pocket," added Scotty.“[The dealers] will go anywhere from two to four times what they actually paid for the vehicle [and] they’re gonna try to get you to pay.”Dealers tend to have a lot of professional background in sales, so they'll wait until they get the highest offers for vehicles with good reputations.People are instead advised to buy cars from private sellers, as they'll likely want to get the money fast and not waste the buyer's time.

In some cases, buying a car from a dealership may be your only option. If this is the case, you should make sure you're asking the dealer all the right questions.

It can be helpful to ask what the final price of the vehicle will be, to stop the dealer adding any unnecessary fees or add-ons during the course of the sale.
