A sick predator who 'betrayed girls' trust' as a police officer has died behind bars. James Glendenning, from Reddish, Stockport, was told by a judge he would likely see the end of his days in a cell after being jailed as a frail pensioner five years ago.

He was handed a 23-year jail sentence for a string of vile sex crimes, committed against young girls in the 1970s. Some of his twisted crimes took place while he served as a constable with West Midlands Police.

Glendenning died on Sunday (October 29) aged 93, the Prison Service has confirmed. He had denied one charge of rape, 10 counts of indecent assault and four counts of indecency with a child.
