Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a 'brilliant' sportsman who was found dead two days after being reported missing. Greater Manchester Police confirmed last night (June 6) that a body found by the Peak Forest Canal in Marple was that of Christopher Barlow.
The 31-year-old was last seen walking along Brabyns Brow at 1.23am on Sunday. Local sides Marple Cricket Club and Mellor Football Club had both shared images of Christopher along with appeals for help finding him on social media in recent days.
After the tragic news was confirmed, both clubs have since paid tribute to a man described as 'one of the best'. A spokesperson for Marple Cricket Club wrote online: "We are devastated that such an integral part of Marple Cricket Club has gone so soon. We offer our deepest condolences and support to the Barlow family at this difficult time. Love you mate." A Mellor FC spokesperson tweeted: "It is with absolute great sadness that what we feared, has been confirmed.
