Travel chaos on train lines as thousands head to Murrayfield for Scotland v Wales

Passengers are facing "severe disruption" on train services today due to a track defect on the Forth Bridge. It comes amid thousands of rugby fans making their way to Murrayfield for the Scotland v Wales Six Nations match.The fault is impacting services on the East Coast between Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee and Fife with delays and cancellations.

Engineers have confirmed that a line closure will be required for urgent repairs which take place overnight.ScotRail have warned that trains that are running are expected to be extremely busy with the Six Nations Match taking place in the capital on Saturday afternoon.Those travelling from Dundee have been advised that they can travel on services to Glasgow and change at Perth, Stirling or Glasgow for connections.

Bus replacements are also going from Edinburgh Waverley and Perth.Network Rail tweeted: "We have received reports of a track defect impacting services via the Forth Bridge between Dalmeny and North Queensferry.

Our staff have been on site this morning carrying out an initial assessment of the defect and assessing what repairs will be required for this."Engineers on site have advised that due to the location of the defect, a line closure will be required for this repair, this will be organised after the last train tonight with work scheduled to take place overnight tonight and into Sunday morning."Unfortunately this will mean services across the Forth Bridge will be severely disrupted today.
