Greater Manchester is home to its fair share of haunted locations, from pubs with levitating pint glasses to music venues with reports of paranormal activity.

But there’s one place which is particularly creepy, especially at Halloween when ghostly beings come out to play. Smithills Hall, a Tudor manor house located on the edge of Bolton, is one of the most haunted places in the city-region.

From the ghost of a man burned at the stake to the sound of horses running through the grounds, there’s been a range of strange incidents reported over the years - it's even appeared in an episode of Most Haunted.

The Grade I-listed hall was passed from various families across the generations. It was first mentioned in written records in 1335 when it was obtained by William Radcliffe.
