Thousands of social homes around Manchester will be revamped after a £47m fund was approved. Over 2,000 properties will see bathrooms, kitchens, and boilers upgraded.
The work on social homes is part of a bigger scheme - with Manchester City Council planning to develop and transform 12,500 homes around the city in a five-year project. Total investment in the city's social homes is expected to exceed £100m after the council announced a separate £60m energy efficiency program earlier this year, with over 2,100 properties earmarked for upgrades.
Retired mechanic Oliver Slade, who lives in social housing in Manchester, welcomes the investment. The 78-year-old said: “I think this is massive, the home isn’t up to scratch at all.
