M53 shut after school bus overturns in crash with 'number of casualties'

Emergency services are responding to a crash involving a school bus on a motorway in Merseyside this morning. Police, fire crews and ambulance vehicles are on the scene on the M53.

The motorway has been shut off both ways between junction five for Eastham and junction four for Bebington. The fire service has confirmed there are a 'number of casualties'.

Calday Grange Grammar School confirmed a bus full of pupils at the school had crashed, the Liverpool Echo reports. "We're actively gathering details and assisting affected students and their families.

Support is available. If you need to talk or seek guidance, please reach out to our teaching and pastoral teams." A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "Following reports of an RTC between a car and a coach on the M53, the trust has despatched resources to the scene.
