Generous Dumbarton youngster raises over £600 for Great Ormond Street Hospital with charity swim

A big-hearted St Patrick’s Primary pupil has raised over £600 for London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital.Lexi McIntosh, a P4 pupil at the Dumbarton school, swam eight kilometres to raise funds for the children’s hospital – after being concerned that not all youngsters had the same opportunity to take to the water as her.Proud mum Dagmara explained: “Lexi loves swimming and has been in West Dunbartonshire Amateur Swimming Club since May.“She trains twice a week as well as competing and was awarded Best Girl Swimmer of the year recently for eight and under.“When we were on holiday in the summer she was concerned about people with disabilities accessing the pool.“I work with children with disabilities and on occasion provide hydrotherapy using specialist equipment and I was able to explain to Lexi that some kids are too sick to swim and those who can swim usually can rarely access the pool.“Lexi said she would train hard and try to do a fundraiser to help others have the same opportunity she has.“When we saw a fundraiser online for Great Ormond Street hospital we showed it to Lexi and she was eager to do it.“With support from friends and family she completed her eight kilometre challenge - which is 320 pool lengths.“She actually swam over nine kilometres in the end.”And Lexi didn’t only smash her distance target, she also smashed her fundraising aim.Dagmara added: “She set herself £100 and raised over six times more.
