Tragic young lad thought he was hailing down a taxi... it was the last thing he'd ever do

A mum has paid a heartbreaking tribute to her son after he was killed whilst trying to hail down a taxi after a night out. Liam Walsh was struck by a red Vauxhall Corsa and sent flying over its roof in Widnes on September 18, 2021.

The 23-year-old former professional rugby player was rushed to hospital but sadly died on arrival. The youngster had been standing in the road attempting to flag down what he thought was a taxi when he was struck by the car, being driven by Glyn Davies, Liverpool Crown Court heard. The court heard there was no evidence that Davies was travelling at an excessive speed but he had swerved his car "at the last minute".

Liam's mum Deborah broke down in tears as she read out a victim personal impact statement in court. She said: "The last two years have been nothing short of devastating for us as Liam's family, it can only be described as hell.
