Three Kilmarnock advertising billboards are to be ditched in favour of one digital screen. The giant 6m x 3m paper hoardings on Western Road will be binned as part of a planning application submitted to East Ayrshire Council.Planning bosses approved blueprints for one digital screen the same size as one existing billboard. However, conditions are attached to the advertising consent given to the applicant, Wildstone Securities.Despite advertising guidance stating an image must remain static for 30 seconds, Ayrshire Roads Alliance have deemed that a period of 10 seconds is acceptable and does not pose a risk to road safety. The maximum level of illumination on the screen has been limited to 600 candelas per square metres during the day and 300 at night. The hours the screen can operate has been restricted to between 6am and 10pm.Moving images, animation and video cannot be displayed on the screen in the interest of road safety.
