Houseplants can also act as air purifiers as they naturally absorb moisture in the air through the leaves which creates an environment less favourable for mould growth, reports the Express. “Plants are the perfect design choice for a room plus they can help prevent condensation and mould too,” said Jamie.

One of the best plants to buy is a peace lily, he says, as not only are they beautiful and easy to care for, but they thrive in humid rooms as their natural environment is rainforests with high humidity. “Peace lilies can remove excess moisture from the air and absorb mould spores, therefore reducing the growth of mould and mildew in the home," he said. “They can reduce humidity levels in their immediate environment, which isn’t great for mould, which thrives in damp environments.” The best spot to place a peace lily is in a bathroom or kitchen, as the steam in these rooms from showering or cooking makes it extremely humid which is great for this plant.
