Football legend dead after suffering head injury - as tributes paid to English star who lit up the game

Aston Villa's legendary player, Gary Shaw, has sadly passed away at the age of 63.The sportsman was in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a head injury from a fall, passing away 'peacefully' surrounded by his family.

Gary reportedly suffered a fall in his home and was rushed to hospital, but unfortunately didn't make it. He is widely celebrated as one of the greatest forwards in Aston Villa's 150-year history, having made 213 appearances and scored 79 goals for the club.

Born in Kingshurst, Gary spent ten years at his childhood club after beginning his apprenticeship with Villa in 1977. In 1981, he played a crucial role in Villa's League Championship victory, scoring 18 goals and earning the title of PFA Young Player of the Year.
