Scots pupils forced out classrooms after dangerous concrete found as one council hit with £50m bill

Thousands of Scots pupils have been forced out of their classrooms after dangerous concrete was found in their schools.One council area is facing a staggering bill of more than £50million to repair five schools and three community centres made from the defective material.Some children are being given lessons in specially-erected "temporary classrooms", while other high school pupils are being taught in their old primary schools, community centres and sports centres.One school has 23 classrooms currently out of bounds to pupils after reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac), which is prone to collapse when wet, was found in the building.And a school with around 1,000 pupils has shut its Physical Education building as a precaution, with all pupils taking P.E.

classes being given their lessons elsewhere.It comes after it was revealed 37 schools across 14 local authorities in Scotland were found to have the potentially dangerous material, reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac).Pupils at two Edinburgh primary schools are being taught in temporary classrooms due to the discovery of the concrete.

The concrete, described as "80 percent air" was found at Trinity Primary School - in the city's Newhaven - in roofs above the kitchen and the ground floor classroom, admin and toilet area.

Four classes have moved into makeshift classrooms in the nearby Trinity Academy playground, with 76 pupils affected.At Cramond Primary School, two blocks complete with separate rooms and toilets have been erected on the playground's netball court with 103 pupils affected.An Edinburgh City Council spokesperson told the Record: "No schools have had to close which is great news.
