Flash flooding hit Dumbarton and the Vale over the weekend, as almost a month’s worth of rain fell in just a few hours.A Met Office amber weather warning for rain was issued for Saturday - with residents forced to protect their homes with sandbags and the weather described as the worst since the 2018 ‘Beast from the East’.Much of the area ground to a standstill, with train services suspended - and shocking photographs showing the rails at Bowling under more than two feet of water.The A82 was impassable in places and the Renton Road was closed, whilst motorists aiming to head to or from Helensburgh also found their routes blocked by flood water and gridlocked with traffic.Drivers also had to be airlifted from the closure-hit A83 after another landslip, with a clear-up operation set to get underway - and the busy route closed between Tarbet and Lochgilphead.West Dunbartonshire Council’s sandbag supply was completely depleted, with a spokeswoman for the local authority saying emergency teams worked hard to tackle areas of flooding due to the prolonged period of extremely heavy rainfall.Dumbarton East was especially badly hit, with hardy residents donning waders and wellies just to leave their front doors.A further yellow warning of rain has been issued for the area today (Tuesday), with the Met Office warning of challenging driving conditions, disruptions to public transport and the risk of more flooding.The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has warned communities to continue to be mindful of the dangers.Janine Hensman, SEPA’s flood duty manager, said: “Across the weekend, Scotland faced down a serious and significant severe weather event.
