Andy Murray hailed one of the greatest fightbacks of his career as he and Dan Evans kept his Olympic last dance alive. The doubles duo looked down and out twice after losing the first set 6-2 then trailing 9-4 in a 10-point tiebreak decider.
But the duo dug deep in true Murray style to stun Japanese pair Kai Nishikori and Taro Daniel and ensure at least one more game in the Scottish legend’s pro career. They saved five match points on a streak that included a Murray ace on the way to securing an 11-9 victory to take their place in the second round.
And asked where it ranked in his all time escapology acts, Murray said: “I don’t think I’ve ever saved five match points in a match.
