American skateboarding sensation Nyjah Huston has taken to Instagram to express his disappointment over the deteriorating state of his bronze medal from the Paris Olympics. The 29 year old athlete, who secured third place in the men's street skateboarding competition behind Japan's Yuto Horigome and fellow American Jagger Eaton, showcased the wear and tear on his medal. "Alright, so these Olympic medals look great when they're brand new," Huston remarked while displaying his prize. "But after letting it sit on my skin with some sweat for a little bit and letting my friends wear it over the weekend.." Huston then revealed the damage by flipping the medal to its other side, which was chipped and fading in colour. "They're [the Olympic medals] apparently not as high quality as you'd think," he added. "It's looking rough.

I don't know, Olympic medals, we gotta step up the quality a little bit.The medal [is] looking like it went to war and back.", reports the Mirror.

Interestingly, each medal from the Paris Olympics incorporates recycled metal from the Eiffel Tower. "It's the opportunity for the athletes to bring back a piece of Paris with them," explained Thierry Reboul, the Games' creative director. "The absolute symbol of Paris and France is the Eiffel Tower." The Paris Mint has produced over 5,000 medals for the occasion, with 2,600 destined for Olympic champions and 2,400 for Paralympic victors. The prestigious French luxury jeweller Chaumet designed the medals.
