Jon-Erik Hexum, who had a swift rise to fame in the entertainment industry, tragically died on October 18, 1984, after he playfully put a .44 Magnum, loaded with blanks, to his head and pulled the trigger. The 26 year old actor was filming a scene for his own TV show, CBS spy adventure Cover Up, where he portrayed an undercover CIA agent moonlighting as a male model.
Jon-Erik became increasingly impatient with delays in filming the scene and started toying with the gun, spinning the barrel in a Russian roulette-like manner.
In what has been labelled a tragic accident, the actor jokingly spun the barrel, which contained one cartridge, placed the gun against his temple and fired.
The gun released a wad of paper that fractured his skull, driving a bone fragment the size of a small coin into the centre of his brain.
