Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of Manchester United's next three games before Ruben Amorim officially takes charge of the club, it has been confirmed.

The former striker, who joined Erik ten Hag's coaching staff in the summer, took charge of Wednesday night's 5-2 EFL Cup win over Leicester City, two days after Ten Hag's departure.

United moved swiftly to appoint Amorim and his arrival was confirmed on Friday. However, he won't begin work in England until November 11 before his first game will be on November 24 against Ipswich Town. "I decided to come back here for a very important reason that I'm here," he said on Thursday. "I came as an assistant to help the club forward and I'm still very motivated to do so in any capacity. "As an assistant, and now as an interim manager, and after that I go back to my assistant contract that I have here for this season and next.
