Saving money can be a real challenge, no matter what your goal is. However, one man has shown how it's done after managing to save £5,000 in just four years using an unconventional method.

Kyle Greenwood, from West Yorkshire, religiously deposited £1 coins into a makeshift piggy bank - a Coca-Cola bottle. The 34-year-old shared a video on TikTok of himself emptying his savings pot, and the pound coins just kept coming.

His video quickly racked up over 1.6 million views, with many viewers feeling inspired to try something similar. Kyle revealed that he began saving at the start of the pandemic and had no idea how much he'd managed to put away.

Initially, the factory worker thought he might spend the money on a "new car or holiday", but as he saw his savings grow, he decided to use it towards buying his and his partner's first home. "I stayed disciplined throughout, even though it was hard," he said. "I thought about dipping into it many times but fought against it once I set my sights on using it to help buy a house." He also admitted that his grandad gave him the bottle, and he made it his mission to "fill it up".
