A knife attacker who stabbed a former schoolmate in the heart in a brutal Lanarkshire murder bid has been jailed for six years.

Ciaran Sharkey repeatedly wounded his victim who was rushed to hospital by a neighbour following the attempted murder in a street assault.

Sharkey admitted assaulting and attempting to murder the man on February 23 last year in Kingsacre Road, Rutherglen, by repeatedly stabbing him on the body with a knife to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger to his life.
