Heartbreaking tributes have been pouring in for an 'amazing' dad-to-be who died in a tragic water rescue incident in Cheadle.

Junaid Athar, aged just 26, died after he was pulled from a brook on Sunday evening (May 26). Emergency services raced to reports of a 'person in need of rescue' in water off Wilmslow Road at around 8pm.

Junaid, who was expecting a child with his partner, later passed away despite the best efforts of paramedics. Junaid, who lived in the Cheadle area and previously studied at Nottingham Trent University, has since been remembered by friends and family as an 'amazing' man with a 'cheeky smile'.

After the news of his death, tributes also flooded in on social media, as he was fondly remembered as 'lighting up every room'. "Junaid Athar was a 26-year-old young man into fitness, MMA and part of a beautiful community that he would lighten up wherever he went; wanting nothing but the positive energy and life," she penned. "He sadly lost his life on May 26th through drowning in a marsh in Cheadle.
