'House-shaking explosion' on A92 as combine harvester engulfed in flames

A combine harvester has burst into flames with locals reporting a 'house-shaking explosion' on a Scots road. Emergency services raced to the A92 near Inverkeilor, between Montrose and Arbroath, after the alarm was raised around 12.15pm on Tuesday.Footage taken at the scene showed a huge plume of black smoke billowing up into the sky, with the vehicle completely engulfed in flames.

Shocked motorists can be seen pulling up on the road as they watch on in horror.It's understood fire crews are currently in attendance dealing with the blaze.Barry O'Neill, who lives nearby, told the Record: "I was in my log cabin office in my back garden -we're probably the closest property in Inverkeilor to the incident - and I heard a massive house-shaking explosion. "I went out to make sure the house wasn't the cause and saw the big plume of black smoke coming from the direction of the road."I went to the church graveyard to see if I could see the cause and saw a huge fire emanating from the road."It was impossible to make out what the source of the fire was but I only hope no one was in the vehicle when the explosion happened."It's not believed anyone has been injured as a result of the blaze.

The A92 is currently closed and police are helping with traffic management.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a vehicle on fire on the A92 near Inverkeilor around 12.15pm on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.“Emergency services are in attendance and there are no reports of any injuries.“The A92 is closed and officers are assisting the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service with traffic management.”The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been asked for comment.
