Delays on M60 as firefighters tackle car blaze

Motorists were caught up in delays after firefighters were called to a blaze on the M60. The fire service responded to reports of a car fire on the anticlockwise carriageway of the motorway near Ashton-under-Lyne.

Two lanes of the motorway were closed while firefighters extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 3pm this afternoon (Saturday, 9th September), firefighters were called to a vehicle fire between junctions 23 and 24 of the M60 anticlockwise.

"The Highways Agency closed lanes one and two of the motorway while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, which involved one car on the hard shoulder.

Firefighters were in attendance for around half an hour and both lanes have now reopened." National Highways said: "The car fire on the M60 anti-clockwise J24 - J23 in #GreaterManchester has now been safely extinguished.
