The council is set to sell off half of the former Central Retail Park, according to new reports. The 10-and-a-half acre site, on Great Ancoats Street, has been left derelict since the last shops closed in 2019.
In February the council announced its hope to transform the plot, which it purchased for £37 million, into an office complex featuring parkland.
At the time, it was said a government department was looking to move into the offices. Now, new reports from Place North West suggest the council and Government Property Agency (GPA) are locked in negotiations to sell off half of the site. Should the sale go ahead and the government department move in, it will close the book on the four-year period where the land has been sat dormant.
