Historic fishing vessel could be scrapped under new council proposals
dailyrecord.co.ukThe future of the old fishing vessel MVF Watchful has been put out to public consultation by South Ayrshire Council. The local authority is looking for views from the public on proposals to remove – and then scrap – the historic vessel.MVF Watchful was decommissioned in the 1990s and installed at the dry dock on South Harbour Street, Ayr, more than 20 years ago.
The boat, which was put in place to commemorate fisherman who lost their lives at sea, is in a 'really poor condition', according to council beaks, due to being exposed to adverse weather.
Previous attempts to have the vessel restored have sunk without a trace. Now the council is proposing that the vessel is removed to improve access for water sports and a harbour art and heritage trail has also been proposed for the site.
