A woman was rushed to hospital after a car plunged into the River Clyde. Two people were pulled from the water in the Castle Road area of Port Glasgow on Wednesday afternoon.
It is understood that two women and a dog were in the black Hyundai when a mechanical issue prevented the car from stopping before it hit the water.
Mercy crews were called to the scene at around 2pm. One woman was then rushed to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment. Her condition is currently unknown.Two male passersby tried to help the stricken women before emergency services arrived.John, from Glasgow, who witnessed the crash said "I saw the car hit the water and called the emergency services.
One man jumped in and another guy was at the bottom of the rocks holding the door handle to stop the car drifting out. The two women and their wee dog were rescued from the car - these two heroic guys were fantastic. "Apparently the car malfunctioned and couldn't stop.
