Ayr United midfielder Olly Pendlebury has quit the club just nine weeks into a two-year deal at Somerset Park. The former England youth captain asked to be released from his contract this week, with the club confirming they had "relucantly" agreed, citing "personal circumstances".Pendlebury joined from English National League side Aldershot in June and had started just two of United's seven competitive games so far this season.
He was an unused substitute in Saturday's 3-0 defeat against Dundee United, with Paul Smith and Frankie Musonda favoured in the centre of the park.Ayr have also strengthened in that area with recent signings Jack Young, who came off the bench on Saturday, and former Brentford B player Roy Syla heading north to join the ranks.
Pendlebury's exit now frees up another squad space with Ayr expected to make a move in the market to fill the void.United have been hit by early season losses with key men Andy Murdoch and Ben Dempsey both facing lengthy spells out from the midfield following knee injuries.Read next: Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines – sign up to our free daily newsletter
