A once-promising footballer whose career "fell by the wayside" was arrested at Manchester Airport after embarking on a different path.
Sean Calvert had been on the books at Tranmere Rovers as a young midfielder. But the 25-year-old was later unmasked as the EncroChat user "Sound Dill", and discovered to be sourcing kilo quantities of heroin, cocaine and cannabis on the encrypted communications platform.
Those drugs were then broken down into smaller amounts for sale on the streets. Calvert appeared at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday (September 18) via videolink after his crimes were uncovered, the Liverpool Echo reports.
The court heard Calvert used the tag "SoundDill" after his contacts had called him "Calv" when EncroChat was infiltrated by law enforcement authorities in 2020.
