A popular seaside town was left underwater after a stream burst its banks following a deluge of heavy rain.Torrential downpours hit much of the country over the weekend, with the UK's south coast especially affected.
Dawlish in Devon ended up flooded after the Dawlish Water, which runs through the town, overflowed and sent water spilling through the streets, reports Devon Live.
Live camera footage from The Beach Bar at the seafront shows the moment floodwater began gushing into Station Road, shortly before 3pm on Sunday.Drivers were left struggling to get along the road, while Dawlish Mini Golf and the seating area surrounding the stream were left underwater.Water began to flow rapidly beneath the railway line and onto the popular beach, with pedestrians on Station Road being stranded by the flood.A seafront cafe and ice cream store had its shutters down, while its seating area was submerged in brown water.A local told Devon Live that, by 5pm, the flood had receded but the area was still flooded.Devon was covered by a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms yesterday, with the chance of further flooding in the area, as well as transport disruption and power cuts.
