Peter Grant has lauded Alexandro Bernabei for his role in Celtic's second strike against St Mirren in their Scottish Cup fifth round triumph.Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda grabbed the goals for Brendan Rodgers' holders as they dumped the Buddies out to set up a quarter-final home clash against Scottish Premiership basement boys Livingston.
The Celtic hero reckons Matt O'Riley will be disappointed he didn't hit the back of the net but says his team-mate showed great reactions to fire home the rebound but it is the role of stand-in left-back Bernabei in the build-up that he has picked out for praise.Speaking as he analysed the move in the lead up to the second goal on Sportscene, Grant said: "I thought he [Maeda] should have scored in the first half.
I know people are saying he got across the front well but I felt he should have scored with it. Bernabei does well. He does the overlap instead of the underlap.
Maeda is in the box like all good wide players should be. Matt will be quite disappointed. But the Bernabei run here takes the defender deeper and allows Palma to cross the ball in.
