Zhao Xintong will return to snooker this month after being banned as part of the sport’s biggest ever match-fixing scandal last year. The former UK champion, now 27, was one of 10 players banned in the summer of 2023.

And the talented Chinese potter has entered the WPBSA Q Tour event in Bulgaria, which starts on September 20, as he looks to put the sorry saga behind him.

Zhao, who did not directly throw a match himself, accepted charges of being party to another player fixing two matches and betting charges. His backdated 20-month suspension ended earlier this month and he is eligible to try and regain his World Snooker Tour status.

Nicknamed the 'Cyclone' for his rapid play around the table, Zhao reached a high of sixth in the world and is a winner of two ranking titles.
