Former Manchester United youngster Nick Powell has revealed Sir Alex Ferguson once apologised to him after a dressing down at Carrington.

Powell signed for the Reds from Crewe Alexandra in 2012, the same day as Shinji Kagawa joined from Borussia Dortmund. After catching the eye with the Railwaymen, hopes were high for the 18-year-old midfielder to in time shine at Old Trafford.

However, his career at United failed to take off. Powell made just nine appearances for the club and spent time on loan at Wigan Athletic, Leicester City and Hull City before being released in 2016.

The youngster scored his only goal for the club off the bench against the Latics in September 2012 in what was his Premier League debut. "I'd just scored against Wigan and I got bullied into doing an MUTV interview after the game," Powell said. "A big thing of mine was never doing interviews because one, I hadn't made it, and two, I was too shy in front of the cameras. "I’ll take pictures all day.
