The Repair Shop's Jay Blades to visit Dumfries House this weekend at book signing event

One of Britain’s best-known TV presenters is set to revisit Ayrshire in a special ‘In Conversation’ event and book signing this Saturday.Dumfries House will welcome British furniture restorer Jay Blades MBE, who is best known for presenting and restoring family heirlooms on BBC’s The Repair Shop.London-born Jay, who is also an ambassador for The Prince’s Foundation whose headquarters are at Dumfries House, visited the estate last year alongside King Charles, then Prince of Wales before his accession to the throne.The pair met and chatted with some of the students and graduates on The Prince’s Foundation’s building craft programme — a training initiative that teaches traditional skills such as blacksmithing, stonemasonry and wood carving.And this Saturday Jay will return to the Cumnock estate to share stories about his life and work during the event, which takes place from 2.30pm.He will be interviewed in front of an audience onstage by The Prince’s Foundation executive director (education) Simon Sadinsky, and will sign copies of his new book afterwards.During the event, Jay will share details of his life, from growing up on a council estate in East London to becoming the face of a number of hit primetime TV shows- including The Repair Shop and Money for Nothing- another repair programme, which sees the presenter rescuing discarded items from council refuse collection sites.By enlisting help from a designer the items are turned into desirable pieces, and sold on, with any profit made being returned to the individual(s) who disposed of the item originally.Jay’s visit comes as The Repair Shop scooped a National Television Award for Best Daytime Programme, toppling This Morning, which had been on a 13-year winning streak in
