West Lothian playgroup gets gold star for putting kids at 'heart of everything they do'

A West Lothian playgroup has been handed a gold star from education inspectors.Howden Playgroup staff were said to be “warm and supportive” of the children in their care.And they were praised for being “very good role models for children” and supported them effectively in explaining their feelings and emotions, helping the children show care and concern for one another, learning to solve disagreements calmly and amicably.Other highlights of the Education Scotland report include children are making ‘very good progress’ in communication and early language.

and in maths, as well as in health and wellbeing.The children are achieving well across a range of areas and staff are highly inclusive and welcoming to all children and families.Playgroup Manager Cheryl Hawthorne said: “I am extremely proud of my team and the amazing report we received, it shows the hard work and commitment our team consistently give in ensuring our setting provides our children a nurturing, child centred experience to support their play and learning which allows them to explore, be curious and creative while being respected and their voices heard. “And she went on to point out: “Our children and their families will always be at the heart of everything we do and we were delighted this shone through in all aspects of the report.” Don't miss the latest news from the West Lothian Courier.
