West Lothian golf club swings into action for top event

Greenburn Golf Club played host to a hugely successful Stephen Gallacher Foundation Bryan Shield Cup.The event at the Fauldhouse club brought together 24 of the top junior golfers from across Scotland to play in a Ryder Cup format tournament across the weekend.The Red team got things underway in the Fourballs on Saturday morning and boasted a three-point lead heading into the Sunday morning singles before eventually sealing a 14-9 victory.Greenburn club captain June Close said: “The club was delighted to have been asked to host the event particularly as club member Brian Watson was a great friend of the late Bryan Shields.

Club members were very impressed with the standard of golf played by the participating young golfers.”She added: “It’s vitally important for our sport that all golfers embrace young people into the game.

Greenburn’s support for this event helps demonstrates their commitment to young people.”Stuart Johnston, on behalf of the Stephen Gallacher Foundation, added: “The course was in fantastic condition and a warm and friendly welcome was extended by everyone at Greenburn. “The junior golfers all enjoyed themselves and events like this provide young golfers with an opportunity to play different courses and to strengthen and enhance their skills in the game. “Thanks to everyone at Greenburn for an excellent weekend.

It was a fantastic two days of golf over an immaculate course which saw some amazing golf from the girls and boys competing.”He went on: “The trophy is in memory of the Bathgate internationalist who was a great friend to Stephen Gallacher and also the SGF management team.
