Young Scot suffering from long Covid lost job and forced to move in with parents

A young woman lost her job and was forced to drop out of university after suffering from long Covid.Catherine Ramsay, 23, first caught the virus in December 2021 and was soon plagued with extreme fatigue, breathlessness and chest pain.

Six months later she caught Covid for a second time and said the severity of her symptoms spiralled out of control. The psychology student was soon forced to drop out of her course at Dundee University and move back in with her parents in Edinburgh in 2022.

Catherine told the Record: "When I first caught Covid the symptoms were relatively mild but then about a month later I noticed I was really tired and had shortness of breath when I was walking, as well as bad chest pains."My symptoms wouldn't go away and then I caught Covid for a second time in July 2022 which seemed to make it worse."It got to the stage where I couldn't properly look after myself because I was so unwell.

I had to move back in with my parents in Edinburgh and quit my job. "I've had to apply for benefits because I couldn't work.
