More than 70,000 people have signed a petition launched by Andrew Malkinson. It is demanding an apology from the independent body that investigates potential miscarriages of justice after it twice rejected his case.
In January, the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), did refer the case to the Court of Appeal after new DNA testing requested by them revealed a potential alternative suspect.
But it had previously refused to do so in 2012 and again in 2020. Last week Mr Malkinson had his 2004 conviction for a brutal rape in Salford quashed by Court of Appeal judges.
But it took him 20 years to clear his name and he spent 17 years in jail.
